Take MARTA to the 4th Annual Georgia ING Marathon and Half Marathon
On March 21st, MARTA makes it easy for runners, spectators and volunteers to sprint to the starting line of the ING Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon. MARTA’s rail service begins at 5 a.m., and customers can conveniently access the start and finish line at Centennial Olympic Park by taking the Red or Gold lines to the Peachtree Center station.
Participants traveling from the Blue or Green lines will transfer at Five Points rail station to any northbound train and ride one stop to the Peachtree Center rail station. Spectators can also get to a number of locations on the course using MARTA. Service on the Red and Gold lines will run every 20 minutes (every 10 minutes between the Lindbergh Center and Airport rail stations) and on the Blue and Green line every 15 minutes.
Participants are encouraged to purchase a roundtrip fare for added convenience. Fares can be purchased at all 38 rail stations or at the ING Georgia Marathon Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, March 19th and Saturday, March 20th. The Health and Fitness Expo at the Georgia Dome is also conveniently accessible by taking MARTA to the Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center station. The Expo is free to the public, and MARTA representatives will be on hand to answer any questions.
The race course winds through 26.2 miles of metro Atlanta’s most interesting and historic areas including the Sweet Auburn District, Inman Park, Decatur, Midtown and Downtown. The race is expected to draw 18,000 runners, 2,000 volunteers and 30,000 spectators.
Downtown, Midtown, and Decatur street closures will begin at 6:00 a.m. and will be completely reopened at 2:00 p.m. Visit the Marathon’s website at www.inggeorgiamarathon.com for race details.
