MARTA Employees Raise over $743,000 for Charitable Causes This Year
Serving the community is a MARTA tradition, and employees capped off the system’s 30th anniversary of providing combined bus and rail service by contributing over $743,000 to more than 400 charities this year. Despite tough economic times, MARTA employees once again stepped up to help those in need. The MARTA Employees Charity Club annual giving campaign concluded with its Holiday Shop on December 21st and 22nd, where 3,000 children received toys and bikes.
“At a time when our employees have been called on to make sacrifices to assist MARTA through these difficult financial times, they have continued to give generously to make a difference in our community,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Dr. Beverly A. Scott. “Each year MARTA employees contribute their time, talents and money to help others. Their community service work is another important example of why MARTA matters so much to this region and state.”
This year the Charity Club raised over $743,000 as part of its annual giving program, charity events and fundraisers. Employees contributed $90,000 to holiday giving programs, $40,000 to the March of Dimes, $3,000 to First Tee of Atlanta, and over $610,000 to other charities. The Charity Club organizes fundraising efforts throughout the year, giving MARTA’s 4,500 employees the opportunity to make regular contributions to a variety of charities.
