Please join us as MARTA's Nicholas Gowens takes us on a quick walk around the Civic
Center Station and all the interesting nearby places to see.
Civic Center is the world's only rail station built over a highway and beneath a city road. When this station was built in 1981, the busy 75/85 Connector was only a couple lanes in each direction. The West Peachtree Street bridge connects Downtown Atlanta to Midtown Atlanta, and the MARTA Red and Gold rail lines run beneath
Civic Center does not have parking, but there are multiple bus and shuttle connections to local businesses, regional buses, and even the interstate Megabus.
The Civic Center neighborhood is a walkable combination of businesses, restaurants, hotels, condos, parks, and even the Boisfeullet Jones Atlanta Civic Center on Piedmont Avenue. Nicholas reveals the popular TV game show that is filmed in this building.
Civic Center Station is also a convenient access point for the popular tourist destinations such as the Center for Civil and Human rights Museum; the Georgia Aquarium; the World of Coca-Cola and the world-famous Centennial Olympic park.
Many MARTA employees have stepped up to serve as
hosts for other station videos. We are proud of their willingness and
enthusiasm to share information about MARTA’s interesting stations, the
neighborhoods we serve, and the destinations we reach. Thank you to our host
for this station video: Mr. Nicholas Gowens
We film these short videos during a regular work day and ride the system from scene to scene. You may have spotted our little group on this or other videos over the past couple years. Depending upon the weather, these can be delightful, or sweaty, or bitter cold. But, that’s living in Atlanta, right?
We filmed this video in late October 2015 and the weather was changeable. It went from sunny to foggy within minutes, and the wind was whipping down those building caverns!
