MARTA rolling out Service changes and improvements December 8th

MARTA customers will soon enjoy a significant number of service improvements throughout the system as routes and schedules are adjusted to ensure better schedule adherence and on-time performance.  Feedback received from customers in these areas was used along with service analysis to make changes that meet customers’ needs.  Major changes are being made to bus service in South Atlanta, Central Atlanta and Sandy Springs.  The following changes will go into effect on Saturday, December 8, 2007.  For more information, visit www.itsmarta.com or call 404/848-5000.

MARTA SERVICE CHANGES EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 8, 2007

Bus Route Days Affected

Service Change Description

1 – Marietta Boulevard/Centennial Olympic Park Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday Route 1 will operate via Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard and Centennial Olympic Park Drive/Spring Street, returning to Marietta Street. At Five Points, Route 1 will continue to Georgia State Station via Edgewood Avenue and Jesse Hill Drive/Piedmont Avenue. Route 1 will operate every 20 minutes during weekday peak hours, every 30 minutes during weekday midday hours and every 40 minutes during evenings and weekends.
2 – Ponce de Leon Avenue Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Eastbound routing from North Avenue Station has been adjusted to improve safety as buses exit the station.  From North Avenue Station, buses will operate via West Peachtree Street, 3rd Street and Juniper Street to Ponce de Leon Avenue.  Frequency will remain the same at 20 minutes weekday peak and 40 minutes weekday
off-peak, evenings and weekends.

3 – Martin Luther King Junior Drive Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 3 has been shortened to operate between Hamilton E. Holmes Station and Five Points Station.  Segments between Five Points Station and Edgewood/Candler Park Station are now served by modifications to Route 113.  In addition, Route 3 will operate both eastbound and westbound directions along Northside Drive, Fair Street and Peters Street.  Route 3 will operate every 30 minutes daily.

4 – Georgia State/Moreland Avenue Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 4 has been combined with Route 48 to create one route between Grady Hospital, Five Points and Inman Park/Reynoldstown Station via Thomasville.  From Five Points Station and after completing the current Grady Hospital loop, Route 4 will travel via Forsyth Street and Trinity Avenue to Windsor Street, Glenn Street, Hendrix Avenue and Pryor Street.  Route 4 will then maintain existing routing to McDonough Boulevard.  The Pontiac Place deviation has been eliminated.  Route 4 will then serve Thomasville via Henry Thomas Drive, Turner Road, Thomasville Drive, Forrest Park Road, Constitution Road, Stonewall Drive, Valley View Road and Regis Road.  The Rebel Forest loop will now be served by Route 49.  Alternating trips will serve the Norwood Road and Locust Lane loops from Route 49.  At Constitution Avenue, Route 4 will continue north on Moreland Avenue to Inman Park/Reynoldstown Station.  Route 4 will operate every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 40 minutes on weekends.

5 – Piedmont Road/Sandy Springs Weekdays

The Lake Placid loop is no longer served by Route 5.  Instead, Lake Placid will be served by modifications to Route 148.  Route 5 will operate every 15 minutes during weekday peak hours, every 20 minutes during weekday midday hours and every 30 minutes in the evenings and on weekends.

7 – Mcafee Road Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Weekday, Saturday & Sunday schedules have been adjusted to improve on-time performance.  Route 7 will now operate every 45 minutes daily.

11 – English Avenue/Atlanta University
Center
Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 11 has been modified to operate between Bankhead Station, Vine City Station and West End Station.  To serve Vine City and West End Stations, Route 11 will continue south on Northside Drive, Chapel Street, Peters Street and West Whitehall Street.  Segments along Marietta Street will now be served by Routes 1, 97 and 113.  Segments along McDaniel Street will be served by new Route 155.  In addition, segments along McDaniel Street and Garibaldi Street will be served by new Route 311.  Route 11 operates every 30 minutes daily.

17 – Hank Aaron Drive/Grady Hospital Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 17 has been shortened to operate between Grady Hospital and the Southside Medical Center via Hank Aaron Drive and Capitol Avenue.  Segments along Edgewood Avenue are now served by modifications to Routes 1 and 397.  Segments south of Southside Medical Center (Jonesboro Road, Lakewood Avenue and Polar Rock) will be served by modifications to Routes 54 and 55 plus new Route 155.  Route 17 service operates every 30 minutes daily.

18 – South Decatur Saturday & Sunday

Departure times from Decatur Station and Georgia State Station have been adjusted to improve connectivity.

19 – Clairmont Road Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Departure times from Brookhaven/Oglethorpe University Station and Decatur Station have been adjusted to improve connectivity. 

23 – Peachtree Road/Buckhead Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 23 has been shortened to operate between Arts Center Station and Lenox Station.  Segments west of Arts Center Station serving Atlantic Station will be served by modifications to Route 113.  Also, Route 23 has been extended north on Peachtree Road to Wieuca Road and Roxboro Road, returning to Lenox Station via East Paces Ferry
Road.  Route 23 will operate every 20 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 30 minutes during weekday off-peak, evenings and weekends.  Common segments along Peachtree Road have been coordinated with Route 110 schedules to provide service every 10 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 15 minutes at all other times.  Supplemental trips between Arts Center Station and Piedmont Hospital will also continue to be provided.

25 – Peachtree Industrial Boulevard Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Weekday service has been adjusted to operate every 40 minutes.  Weekend service will continue to operate every 60 minutes.

26 – Perry Boulevard/West Highlands Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

An additional branch has been added to serve Columbia Grove Apartments via Habershal Drive.  Later evening service has also been added.  Route 26 frequency will remain the same at 30 minutes on weekdays and 60 minutes on weekends.

27 – Monroe Drive/Cheshire
Bridge Road
Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 27 has been extended west from North Avenue Station to serve Northyards Boulevard from Route 113.  Also, eastbound routing will operate via West Peachtree Street, 3rd Street and Juniper Street before returning to North Avenue.  Frequency remains the same at 30 minutes during weekday peak and midday hours and 45 minutes during all evenings and weekends.

36 – North Decatur Road Saturday & Sunday

New Sunday service has been added at 45 minute frequency.  The Saturday schedule has also been adjusted to improve connectivity.

38 – Chastain Park Weekdays & Saturday

Route 38 has been modified between Roswell Road and Chastain Park.  The route will no longer operate via Powers Ferry Road.  Instead, Route 38 will serve Chastain Park via West Wieuca Road.  Service operates every 60 minutes, Monday through Saturday.

41 – Windsor Parkway and
NEW 341 – Windsor Parkway/
Lynwood Park

Weekdays

Route 41 has been converted to small vehicle operations and has changed to Route 341.  Also, the segment serving Lake Hearn has been eliminated.  New Route 341 service will operate every 60 minutes on weekdays only.

42 – Pryor Road Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 42 now operates the entire length of Pryor Street between Mitchell Street and Lakewood Way.  The Windsor Street segments north of the expressway overpass are now served by Route 4.  The Joyland and Villages of Carver loops will be served by all Route 42 trips.  The Amal Drive and Ashwood Avenue loops are now served by alternating trips.  Route 42 has also been extended to serve Lakewood/Ft. McPherson Station via Lakewood Expressway, Sylvan Road and Astor Avenue.  Route 42 will operate every 30 minutes daily.

48 – Moreland Avenue Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 48 has been eliminated and combined with Route 4.  The Forrest Park Road segment that serves the
Rebel Forest loop is now served by Route 49.

49 – Thomasville Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Outbound routing on Route 49 will now operate via Pollard Boulevard and Atlanta Avenue.  Georgia Avenue and Hill Street will be served by modifications to Route 97.  Route 49 has also been extended to serve the Rebel Forest loop from Route 48.  The Norwood Road and Locust Lane loops are now served by modifications to Route 4.  Route 49 operates every 15 minutes during weekday peak hours, every 30 minutes during weekday off-peak hours and every 40 minutes on weekends.

51 – Simpson Street/Mozley Park Weekdays & Saturday

The Northside Drive and Fair Street segments will no longer be served by Route 51.  Instead, service will be provided by modifications to Routes 3, 11 and 13.  Route 51 will operate every 20 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 30 minutes during weekday off-peak, evenings and weekends.

52 – Knight Park Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Departure times from Bankhead Station and Ashby Station have been adjusted to improve connectivity.

54 –Empire Boulevard/Polar Rock Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 54 has been extended north to serve Oakland City Station.  From Macon Drive, the route will operate via Polar Rock Road, Pryor Road, Fair Drive, Metropolitan Parkway and Dill Avenue.  Selected trips will also serve Atlanta Metro College and Atlanta Technical School.  The southern terminus of the route has been moved to Hamilton Boulevard with route segments along Zip Industrial Boulevard to be served by new Route 178. 
Route 54 will operate every 30 minutes daily.

55 – Cleveland Avenue/Lakewood
Heights
Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 55 has been shortened to operate between Five Points and East Point Station via Cleveland Avenue and Irene Kidd Parkway.  The Lakewood Avenue segment and the Swallow Circle loop are now served by new Route 155.  The Jonesboro Road segment formerly served by Route 17 is now served by Route 55.  All routing south of Cleveland Avenue will be served by new Route 178.  Route 55 service operates every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 45 minutes on weekends.  Common segments along Cleveland Avenue have been coordinated with Route 78 and 178 schedules to provide service every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends.

72 – Virginia Avenue/Tradeport
Boulevard
Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 72 has been modified to operate all segments south of the Hapeville railroad.  Service is also being extended to Tradeport Boulevard via Doug Davis Drive, Atlanta Avenue and Henry Ford II Avenue.  Route 72 service operates every 30 minutes daily.

77 – Willingham Drive/Hapeville Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 77 has been extended north from East Point Station to serve Lakewood-Ft. McPherson Station via Main Street.  The route has also been shortened in Hapeville with a turnaround via Virginia Avenue, Doug Davis Drive, Atlanta Avenue and South Central Avenue.  Tradeport Boulevard will be served by modifications to Route 72.  Route 77 will operate every 45 minutes daily.

78 – Cleveland Avenue/Hutchens Road Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 78 will operate from College Park and East Point Stations via Main Street, Irene Kidd Parkway and Cleveland Avenue.  Former segments along Norman Berry Drive are now served by modifications to Route 93.  Segments along Main Street north of East Point Station are now served by modifications to Route 77.  Route 78 will operate every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 45 minutes on weekends.  Common segments along Cleveland Avenue have been coordinated with Route 55 and 178 schedules to provide service every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends.

84 – East Point/Camp Creek Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

The weekday, Saturday & Sunday schedules have been adjusted to improve on-time performance.  Route 84 will now operate every 20 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 40 minutes during weekday off-peak, midday and weekend hours.

93 – Norman Berry Drive/Forrest
Hills Drive
Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 93 will operate from East Point Station via Main Street and Norman Berry Drive.  The Metropolitan Parkway loop has been expanded to serve Hammond Park via Mount Zion Road, Forrest Hills Drive and Cleveland Avenue.  Also, all segments north of Cleveland Avenue will now be served by new Route 193.  Route 93 will operate every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 60 minutes on weekends and during all evening hours.

95 – Metropolitan Parkway/Hapeville Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

The selected trips serving Atlanta Metro College and Atlanta Technical School will be provided by modifications to Route 54 instead of Route 95.  There are no other routing changes proposed to Route 95.  However, departure times from West End Station have been adjusted to improve connectivity.

96 – Snapfinger Woods Drive Weekdays

The Lou Walker Senior Center will no longer be served by Route 96.  Instead, selected trips from Route 117 will serve the center.

97 – Georgia Aquarium/Zoo Atlanta Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

The Confederate Avenue loop will now be served by modifications to Route 397.  Instead, Route 97 will end at Zoo Atlanta via Georgia Avenue, Hill Street, Atlanta Avenue and Cherokee Avenue.  The Georgia Aquarium segment has also been modified to operate via Marietta Street, Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard and Spring Street to Civic Center Station.  Route 97 will operate every 30 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 40 minutes during off-peak and weekend hours.

98 – West End/Arts Center Weekdays

Route 98 has been eliminated with most segments assumed by modifications to Routes 99 and 113.  Route 99 will assume all segments along Donald L. Hollowell Parkway, Northside Drive and North Avenue.  Route 113 will assume all segments through Georgia Tech including Tech Parkway, Ferst Drive and State Street.  Segments along 14th Street have been eliminated in anticipation of the reconstruction of the 14th Street Bridge.  Route 52, 67 and 68 will continue to serve Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard.

99 – North Avenue/Boulevard Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 99 has been extended west from North Avenue Station to serve Bankhead Station via North Avenue, Northside Drive and Donald L. Hollowell Parkway.  Eastbound routing will operate via West Peachtree Street, 3rd Street and Juniper Street before returning to North Avenue.  Also, routing to King Memorial Station has been modified. 
From Boulevard, Route 99 will continue south to Auburn Avenue, Jackson Street and Decatur Street.  Additional segments of Jackson Street and John Wesley Dobbs Drive are now served by modifications to Routes 113 and 397. 
Route 99 will operate every 60 minute, daily including new Sunday service.

100 – Downtown Atlanta Tourist Loop Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 100 has been eliminated with most segments assumed by Routes 1, 16, 97, 99, 110 and 113.

101 – Midtown Atlanta Tourist Loop Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 101 has been eliminated with most segments assumed by Routes 27, 36, 45, 97 and 110.

110 – “The Peach” Peachtree Street Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 110 has been shortened to operate between Lenox Station and Five Points Station.  The Capitol loop has been discontinued.  Instead, service in this area will continue to be maintained by Routes 9, 21, 55, 74 and 97.  Route 110 will operate every 20 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 30 minutes during weekday off-peak,
evenings and weekends.  Common segments along Peachtree Road have been coordinated with Route 23 schedules to provide service every 10 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 15 minutes at all other times.

111 – Hillandale Drive/Stonecrest Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Schedules have been adjusted to operate every 30 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 40 minutes during weekday off-peak hours and weekends.

113 – Atlantic Station/Auburn Avenue Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 113 has been modified to operate between Arts Center Station and Edgewood/Candler Park Station.  From Arts Center Station, Route 113 will serve Atlantic Station via 17th Street, Village Street, 16th Street and State Street.  Continuing south on State Street, Route 113 will serve Georgia Tech via Ferst Drive and Tech Parkway.  At North Avenue, the route will continue south on Centennial Olympic Parkway to Marietta Street and Decatur Street. 
Northbound trips will operate via Spring Street and Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard to Centennial Olympic Parkway. 
Service to Northyards Boulevard from North Avenue Station will now be provided by Route 27.  Service to Pine Street and Luckie Street will be provided by Route 99.  Route 113 has also been extended east via Peachtree Center Avenue, Auburn Avenue and Jackson Street. At Jackson Street, alternating trips will continue to Edgewood Candler Park Station via Irwin Street, Lake Avenue, Austin Avenue, Euclid Avenue, McLendon Avenue and Oakdale Road.  Opposite trips will operate via John Wesley Dobbs Avenue, Randolph Street, Highland Avenue, Freedom Parkway, Moreland Avenue and DeKalb Avenue.  Route 113 will operate every 30 minutes daily with service on each branch east of Jackson Street operating hourly.

117 – Rockbridge Road/Panola Road Weekdays

Selected midday trips will now serve the Lou Walker Senior Center.

119 – Avondale Estates/North
Hairston Road
Weekdays

Weekday frequency has been adjusted to operate every 40 minutes during peak and off-peak hours.  Late evening and weekend service will continue to operate every 50 minutes.

120 – Stone Mountain Weekdays

Weekday schedules have been adjusted to improve on-time performance.

139 – Lenox/Plaza Fiesta Weekdays

Schedules have been adjusted to operate every 30 minutes on weekdays.  Weekend service will continue to operate at 30 minute frequency.

143 – Windward Park & Ride Weekdays

Route 143 has been extended to serve Windward Concourse and The Terraces at Windward.  Morning routing will operate via Deerfield Parkway, Morris Road, McGinnis Ferry Road, Windward Concourse, Windward Plaza and Windward Parkway.  Afternoon routing will operate in the reverse.  Route 143 frequency will remain the
same at 20 minutes on weekdays only.

148 – Medical Center/Powers
Ferry Landing
Weekdays

Route 148 has been modified to operate between Lake Placid Drive/Kingsport Drive (formerly served by Route 5) and Sandy Springs Station via Medical Center Station.  Selected peak hour trips will also continue to serve Powers Ferry Road, Northside Drive and the Riveredge Office Park.  Former peak hour segments east of the intersection of
Mt. Vernon Highway & Hammond Drive (including Sandy Springs Circle, Roswell Road and Abernathy Road) have been eliminated.  Instead, service will operate via Hammond Drive, Lake Forrest Drive and Northwood Drive, serving the Lake Placid loop from Route 5.  At Roswell Road, Route 148 will continue to Medical Center Station via Glenridge Drive, Johnson Ferry Road and Peachtree-Dunwoody Road.  After serving Medical Center Station, Route 148 will continue north to Sandy Springs Station via Peachtree-Dunwoody Road, Mt. Vernon Highway and Perimeter Center West.  Route 148 will operate every 45 minutes during weekday peak hours with new weekday off-peak and evening service operating at 60 minute frequency.

NEW 155 – McDaniel Street/Lakewood
Avenue
Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 155 is a new route comprised of segments from Routes 11, 17 and 55.  From Five Points Station, Route 155 will serve the McDaniel Street segments of Route 11 to University Avenue.  At University Avenue, the route will continue east to McDonough Boulevard and assume Route 55’s segments on Lakewood Avenue and the Swallow Circle loop.  At Jonesboro Road and Lakewood Avenue, alternating trips will continue on Lakewood Avenue to serve the Polar Rock loop from Route 17.  Service will operate every 30 minutes, daily with service to Swallow Circle and Polar Rock operating hourly.

NEW 172 – Sylvan Road/Hapeville Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 172 is a new route comprised of segments from Routes 72 and 93.  From Oakland City Station, Route 172 will travel to Hapeville via Dill Avenue, Murphy Avenue, Langston Avenue, Sylvan Road and North Central Avenue.  Route 172 will then continue to Hamilton Boulevard via Browns Mill Road.  Service will operate every 30 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 40 minutes during weekday off-peak hours and on weekends.

NEW 178 – Cleveland Avenue/Southside
Industrial Park
Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 178 is a new route comprised of segments from Routes 55 and 78.  From East Point Station, Route 178 will travel to Browns Mill Road via Irene Kidd Parkway and Cleveland Avenue.  At Browns Mill Road, the route will continue south to Hamilton Boulevard via Ruby Harper Boulevard, Southside Industrial Parkway, Zip Industrial Boulevard and Browns Mill Road.  Humphries Drive and Blair Villa Drive will be served by alternating trips.  Route 178 will operate every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 45 minutes on weekends.  Common segments along Cleveland Avenue have been coordinated with Route 55 and 78 schedules to provide service every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends.

180 – Fairburn/Palmetto Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 180 has been adjusted to serve the New Beginnings Senior Center in Fairburn.  The route will operate via West Campbellton Street, Washington Street and Brooks Drive.  Route 180 frequency remains the same at 20 minutes during weekday peak, 30 minutes during weekday off-peak and 45 minutes on weekends.

305 – Barfield Road/Glenridge Drive Weekdays

The Glenridge Drive loop has been expanded south of Abernathy Road.  The route will continue south on Glenridge Drive to Hammond Drive.  Route 305 will operate every 15 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 30 minutes during weekday off-peak hours.

NEW 311 – McDaniel Street/Pittsburgh Weekdays

Route 311 is a new small bus route comprised of segments from Route 11.  From West End Station, Route 311 will travel to Pittsburgh via Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, McDaniel Street, University Avenue, Garibaldi Street and Fletcher Avenue.  Route 311 will then immediately return to West End Station via McDaniel Street and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard.  Service will operate every 30 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 40 minutes during weekday off-peak hours.

320 – College Park Weekdays

Route 320 has been eliminated with all segments assumed by modifications to Routes 72 and 78.  Route 72 will assume all segments along Princeton Avenue, Princeton Drive, Atlanta Street and Virginia Avenue.  Route 78 will maintain service along Main Street. 

393 – Sylvan Hills and
NEW 193 – Sylvan Hills

Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 393 has been converted to traditional bus operations and has changed to Route 193.  Route 193 will also serve portions of Route 93 that are north of Cleveland Avenue.  From Sylvan Road, Route 193 will continue to East Point Station via Lakewood Avenue, Springdale Road, Cleveland Avenue, Sylvan Road, Jefferson Avenue, Jefferson Terrace, Cleveland Avenue, Martin Street and Irene Kidd Parkway.  Route 193 will operate every 30
minutes on weekdays plus new service on weekends and during all evening hours at 60 minute frequency.

397 – Cherokee Avenue/Grant Park Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Route 397 has been modified to serve the Confederate loop from Route 97.  The current terminus along Ormond Street, Fraser Street, Georgia Avenue, Hank Aaron Drive and Atlanta Avenue will be assumed by modifications to Routes 17, 49 and 97.  A northern extension to Inman Park/Reynoldstown Station has also been added via Jackson Street and Edgewood Avenue to assume segments of Route 17.  Route 397 will operate every 45 minutes daily.

Rail Service Days Affected Service Change Description
North-South and East-West Rail Service Weekdays, Saturday & Sunday

Rail schedules have been slightly adjusted to improve connectivity and maintain consistency between train trips.
