MARTA's Doraville and Chamblee Stations

Please join MARTA employee, Kevin Chong, as he takes us on a tour of MARTA's two stations on the Gold Northeast line: Doraville and Chamblee.

The Doraville and Chamblee community is home to one of the largest Asian populations in the country. Many Latin American countries are also represented. More than half the residents speak a language other than English as their first language.

Some of the most popular destinations include: The Buford Highway Farmer's Market, featuring international foods and a focus on Korean. Bus route 39 starts at Doraville Station and travels down the Buford Highway corridor all the way to Lindbergh Station. Along the way you'll find a variety of dining, shopping, and businesses including Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Mexican, and many other Latin and Asian influences. The Doraville Station is also a connection for the Gwinnett Transit bus system. If you take a random count of license plates in the Doraville Station parking lots you will find more than half of them are folks driving from counties outside DeKalb and Fulton: Hall, Forsyth, Barrow and Gwinnett residents choose to park and ride the train into town.

The former General Motors Assembly Plant is located on the west side of the Doraville Station. It was recently sold for redevelopment and plans are to build a livable, mixed-use transit-oriented development.

A quick train ride south takes us to Chamblee Station. The "International District" is on the east side of the station, and "Antique Row" is to the west. Peachtree-DeKalb Airport, known as PDK, is the second busiest airport in Georgia!, and is just a quick walk or bus ride away. You can see the runway from the Chamblee Station platform. The Atlanta Chinese Cultural Center is just a 3-minute walk. It's known for its Chinese New Year festivities.

On the west side of Chamblee Station you will find new lofts and condos along Peachtree Road. They are very popular with Millenials due to their proximity to the train station. Just a few blocks north is Downtown Chamblee and where Antique Row begins. Antique lovers can spend a day hunting through antique, consignment, and thrift shops.

We hope you enjoy the video tour!

Behind the scenes:

Many MARTA employees have stepped up to serve as hosts for other station videos. We are proud of their willingness and enthusiasm to share information about MARTA's interesting stations, the neighborhoods we serve, and the destinations we reach. Here is a quick peek behind-the-scenes of this video shoot for Doraville and Chamblee stations with our host from MARTA's Office of Architecture and Design, Kevin Chong.

Kevin was a good sport! He was willing to climb up on our Doraville Station roof to film our opening for the video. The camera man and Director are standing on the north end of the Doraville platform, and Kevin is on the other side of the tracks.

We filmed this video in November, and it was one of the colder days. You can see Kevin's warm gloves (yellow) on the ground where he tossed them during his scene. We also asked him to remove his warm knit cap so our video didn't look too "dated" due to the weather.

If you've been on the top level of our Doraville parking deck, then you recognize the view from here. The GM Assembly plant is to the right. Kevin was studying the script for his next scene.

This is the Host and crew walking back to Doraville station after taking a lunch break on Buford Highway. Fantastic Mexican restaurant just a few minutes walk away!

As we filmed the last few pieces the sunlight was beginning to make the shadows longer and longer. This time we wrapped by 4 pm. So cold!!!

"Thanks for riding MARTA!"
