Bikes on MARTA
MARTA
allows bicycles on trains at any time of the day or night.
Cyclists are encouraged, however, to be mindful of other patrons.
Passengers who take their bikes on trains are encouraged to
exercise extra caution when using the rail system.
Please keep these safety
tips in mind:
Avoid
boarding trains that are full.
Please
keep your bike out of the aisle and away from the train door.
Use
elevators, not escalators, when taking bikes in and out of
rail stations.
Bikes
are only allowed on racks on front of buses, not inside. Each
bus can only handle two bikes at one time, first come,
first
served.
Many people who use bicycles
to get around metro Atlanta often use MARTA as part of their
trip. Using MARTA in conjunction with a bicycle helps patrons
to commute safely and efficiently. MARTA is proud to be one
of the few transit systems in the United States to offer such
unrestricted bicycle access on trains.
Bike and transit integration supports both transit and bicycle transportation. bicycle and transit integration has proven successful in attracting new riders and transit agencies find that a significant portion of rack users consist of new transit riders.
Benefits include increased choice and security for cyclists, increased cycling and transit use, and reduced automobile travel. There are other benefits to integrating cycling and transit such as lower air pollution emissions, reduced vehicle congestion, lower capital costs for park-and-ride facilities and improved neighborhood environments. Enhancing bicycle access to transit is important not only for achieving improved mobility but also for improved transit service.
Biking - Not Just for Exercise!
Atlanta residents waste more than 160 million gallons of gas sitting in traffic each year! When sunlight and heat react with gasoline fumes and exhaust, ground-level ozone pollution forms and Atlanta¹s air quality suffers.
Viewer Tip: Save gas! Many commuting trips are around five miles or less - a bikeable distance. If you only have short distance to go, consider biking to work instead of driving to reduce your emissions. Biking can save you about 400 gallons of gas in a year.
Seasons: All Seasons, due to Atlanta's moderate climate.
