abstract imageThe MTI program is an example of MARTA’s commitment to developing better business practices now to ensure that we are prepared for the future. We can all remember hard times during the Recession. MARTA is no exception. The Authority got a major reality check: we were facing a financial crisis. After decades of growth and prosperity, we realized that business as usual was steering MARTA towards an increasingly unstable financial future. And fast. If we didn’t take serious actions immediately, we were moving toward an unsustainable tomorrow! MARTA was forced to make some difficult decisions to get back on track. We’re grateful to be in a better place today, but we still have a  way to go.

We are focused on getting our financial house in order and being better than ever. MTI is one of the ways that MARTA continues to build on the progress we’ve already made.

You can think of the MTI program as a road map. MTI provides clear directions to help us reach our main goal— improving the way we do business and shifting the course of our future towards long-term sustainability. As an agency, we want to meet future needs of the people that matter most—our customers and our employees. That means being prepared for whatever the future may bring. MARTA is committed to managing our resources to grow, adapt, and change.

 Bottom line—we have to change the way we do business to continue providing public transit services to our community. That’s why we’re taking steps today that bring value, save money, and build trust for the Authority. We want to ensure MARTA’s long-term viability and success. The MTI program will help MARTA reduce costs and increase revenue to achieve long-term financial stability. This will ultimately prepare the Authority for future growth and provide opportunities for future success. Accomplishing these goals will in turn help MARTA achieve its vision: maintaining its role as a good steward of a trusted public transportation system and vital resource to the Metro Atlanta community.
