MARTA’s Image: The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), its employees or agents, cannot be negatively portrayed in any photograph or filming. Public transit cannot be depicted as an unsafe or dangerous environment. MARTA will review the subject matter of all photography and film requests to ensure that it meets this criteria.
Photography Requirements
Any request for photography on the MARTA system must be approved by the MARTA Communications Office. Anyone taking photographs on the MARTA system or property without prior consent will be asked by MARTA police or customer service representatives to discontinue the activity and contact the Communications Office for further information. The Communications Office will provide interested parties with information on the Authority’s photography guidelines and approval process.
In order to photograph MARTA trains, buses, stations or utilize MARTA property for photography purposes, an approval request must be submitted in writing to the Communications Office. The request must include the date, time and location where the photography will take place as well as the names of those participating. Requests must also state the exact purpose for the photography shoot. If photographs of MARTA will be used for commercial purposes, additional details will be required for approval. Any photography crews with more than three participants will be required to hire an off-duty MARTA police officer to escort them during the shoot. A price list can be requested from the Communications Office.
Once approval is granted, the photographer(s) will be issued a letter stating that the individual(s) have been permitted access to the system for the purpose of photography with the full understanding that the activities will in no way interfere with MARTA operations or inconvenience passengers. MARTA police will receive detailed notification about all photography shoots. Photographers will be required to adhere to the following guidelines:
- No tripods or specialized lighting is permitted on the MARTA system. Only handheld cameras are allowed. This protects the safety of our customers and employees.
- Photographers can not in any way impede passengers, employees, or transportation delivery during the photography session.
- Photography is not permitted during rush-hour travel.
- Photographers are only allowed in public areas.
- Photographs of the MARTA system are not allowed to be posted on the Internet.
- MARTA reserves the right to review photographs upon request.
- Permits are issued at the discretion of the Authority and may be denied for any reason. Permits may be denied or revoked during periods of heightened threat levels or alerts.
