Crime Scene Unit
The Crime Scene Unit (CSU) performs advanced and expert level technical duties to process evidence while investigating crime scenes. It is up to the Crime Scene officers to secure the crime scene, determine the scope of the area, and formulate a plan.
The CSU prioritizes the various tasks and determines the forensic processes for each case. The scenes are sketched to establish permanent records of items and conditions, distance and size relationships. Video and photographs are included in the visual records.
The CSU testifies in court about what was found at the crime scene and the investigative methods that were used.
The CSU coordinates all activities with MARTA Police staff and judicial systems when handling evidence. There is a process for chain of custody and related crime scene investigation activities.
