MARTA was created in 1965 by an act of the Georgia Legislature. The Police Department was established in 1977 with thirteen certified officers.

As a MARTA officer you will receive quality basic training at a Regional Police Academy and continuing in-service training that will equip you to perform various tasks required of a MARTA Police Officer.
The MARTA Police Department offers a variety of exciting opportunities including but not limited to: Mobile Patrol, Motorcycle Unit, Bus Patrol, Special Operations Response Team (SORT), K-9, Bomb & Narcotics Unit, Train Patrol, Foot Patrol, Bicycle Patrol and Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU).
The MARTA Police Department's salary is very competitive with other police agencies in the Metropolitan Atlanta area.
