Assistant General Manager, Planning
Ms. King has over 30 years of professional planning experience; the majority of which has been in the provision of services to the North American transit industry. In her current position, as Assistant General Manager (AGM) of Planning for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), she manages staff and consultants in the development of studies and analysis in support of the Authority's planning program.
Prior to MARTA, Ms. King served as Staff Director of the Transit Planning Board (TPB), a special purpose entity established by the key transportation agencies in the Atlanta region tasked with facilitating regional decision making about an integrated transit system. Her expertise includes transit corridor planning, project feasibility and alternative analysis studies. She has spent the majority of her career as a consultant with several leading transit industry firms. She has provided professional services to a variety of transit service operators and was the Director of Community Relations for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Authority (DART) as well as a Senior Environmental Planner for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, in Houston, Texas.
Ms. King has worked on major transit projects in Knoxville, TN; Baltimore, MD; Hampton Roads/Norfolk, VA; Austin Dallas and Houston, TX; San Diego and Los Angeles, CA; Salt Lake City Utah; Denver, CO; Orlando and Tampa, FL; Winston-Salem and Greensboro, NC. She is a member of the APTA Policy and Planning Committee, the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS), the American Planning Association and the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO). Ms. King holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA and a Master’s in City and Regional Planning from Ohio State University. She is a native of Winston-Salem, NC and currently lives in Tucker, Georgia where she is active in her church serving on the Trustee Board and is a member of the choir.
