Atlanta is home to one of the best food scenes in the nation. Bringing together ethnic favorites and southern-comfort cooking, this city offers a foodie experience unlike any other. And best of all, it's never far from home.

Whether you're here on vacation or call Atlanta home year 'round, eating local is something you simply have to try. To help you get started, we've put together an eight-stop MARTA trip taking you through the culinary heart of Atlanta. Give it a go!

Stop One

Kimball House

303 East Howard Ave. Decatur

This place brings passion and hospitality to the world of quality home cooking. Kimball House has made its name in serving food and drinks that fit the changing seasons — along with the personalities of the people in the kitchen. It's a welcoming stop on any trip.

Directions: From the Decatur station, take Church Street south until you come to East Trinity Place. Take that street for a quarter of a mile and you'll see Kimball House.


Stop Two

One Eared Stag

1029 Edgewood Ave NE, Atlanta

Quirky, cozy decor sets this stop apart. One Eared Stag offers brunch, lunch and dinner along with a variety of new American favorites ranging from house-cured meats to pickled vegetables. Its casual atmosphere makes it a great choice at any time.

Directions: From the Inman Park-Reynoldstown station, walk .1 miles down Edgewood Avenue Northeast. You'll see the building as soon as you exit the station.


Stop Three

Cakes & Ale

155 Sycamore St. Decatur

Our first stop offers a warm-hearted take on down-to-earth cuisine. Cakes & Ale approaches food and drink with a simple philosophy: cook unassuming food using the highest-quality ingredients, and serve it in a welcoming place.

Directions: Exit Decatur station and it'll be right across the street.


Stop Four

Chai Pani

406 W Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur

Chai Pani is a creative take on Indian tradition. It serves a mix of traditional Indian street food, drinks and thalis — along with numerous ideas that help celebrate innovation and the evolution of food.

Directions: From the Decatur station, walk along West Ponce de Leon Avenue for half a mile. Walking takes about 10 minutes.


Stop Five


5394 Peachtree Rd, Chamblee

Set in an old factory, Southbound brings together the full experience of farm-fresh, southern-comfort cooking. This stop is for you if you're into classic southern favorites.

Directions: From the Chamblee station, take a right and walk along Peachtree Road for about half a mile. Southbound will be on your left.


Stop Six

Calle Latina

406 Church St, Decatur

This stop is all about families eating together. Calle Latina brings the best tastes of South America to Decatur, along with a hefty amount of family values and South American flair.

Directions: From the Decatur station, take Church Street north for a couple blocks. Calle Latina will be on your left.


Stop Seven

Room at Twelve

400 West Peachtree St. NW #12, Atlanta

This steakhouse puts a different spin on the usual steakhouse standards. Located on the ground floor of Twelve Centennial Park Hotel, Room at Twelve offers steak, sushi and a full bar ready for guests or locals looking for a place to spend the evening.

Directions: From the Civic Center station, head north on Peachtree Street Northwest for half a mile. Room at Twelve will be on your left.


Stop Eight

El Rey Del Taco

5288 Buford Hwy NW, Doraville

Claiming to be the most authentic Mexican taqueria and restaurant in Atlanta, El Rey De Taco brings some of the best Mexican flavors to the Buford Highway area.

Directions: From the Doraville station, walk a quarter of a mile along Park Avenue toward Buford Highway Northeast. Take a right and walk another quarter of a mile until you see El Rey Del Taco on your right.
