BlueBullet USING MARTA

Bus Safety Tips

  • Wait at the bus stop. You can only board and get off the bus at designated MARTA bus stops.
  • Do not run after or alongside a bus to get it to stop. Operators turn their attention to the road and traffic once the bus is moving.
They may not be able to see you, AND YOU COULD BE PUTTING YOURSELF AND OTHERS AT RISK. Once the doors have closed and the bus has pulled away
from the bus stop, MARTA bus operators are not allowed to stop for passengers. If they do, and an accident or incident occurs, they will be disciplined accordingly.
  • Please allow passengers to exit the bus before you board. For safety purposes, customers using mobility devices should board last.
  • Do not cross in front of a MARTA bus at a bus stop. Wait until the bus leaves the stop, and then cross carefully looking both ways. ALWAYS use the crosswalks.
  • Hold on when standing. Use the handrails to steady yourself while standing on a moving bus.
  • Do not stand in front of the yellow line. The area between the operator and the front door must always be kept clear to provide bus operators with as much visibility
    as possible.
  • Keep all objects and body parts inside of the bus. Extending any part of your body (head, hands or arms) out of the bus window is very dangerous.
  • Do not distract bus operators by engaging them in unnecessary conversation when the bus is in motion. The U.S. Department of Transportation is leading the
effort to end distracted driving. Distracted driving is a serious, life-threatening practice.
  • Keep the aisles clear. Do not place your belongings or your legs in the aisle. The aisle must be kept clear for others to walk.
  • When using wheelchairs or other mobility devices, use the front door to enter and exit.
  • If you request the ramp, please stand clear until it is deployed to the ground.
  • Do not place personal items on or near fire extinguishers.
  • Protect your property. When using an electronic device, avoid sitting or standing near doors on rail cars and buses.
  • Bicycles are only allowed on racks on the front of buses, not inside. Each bus can only handle two bicycles at one time, first come, first served.
