Congress has proposed significant cuts to federal funding to public transit and to surface transportation programs throughout the United States. These cuts would make it more difficult -- and more expensive -- for MARTA to purchase buses when we need them and to keep our vehicle fleet well-maintained.
For other transit agencies, these cuts could mean service delays, fare increases and over-crowding. If these cuts go into effect, they could also result in higher unemployment and leave many Americans stranded without access to their jobs and basic services such as medical visits, religious services and education.
