FAQs - Searching and applying for jobs at MARTA

To avoid problems or for the speediest resolution, please ensure you go over all the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) listed here thoroughly. We also strongly advise you to go through the appropriate video tutorial.  If you have not already viewed the tutorial by accessing it from the iRecruitment page, you may click the appropriate link below:

Registration and Login

Do I have to register on your site to view available positions and submit an application?
You may conduct a job search without being registered or logging in.  To submit an application, however, you must be registered and logged in.  If you have never been a MARTA employee and are not already registered, you may access registration from the home page by clicking the ‘Register today’ button.

How do I know if my profile is already in your system or if I need to register again?
If you are a current employee of MARTA or an external candidate who has applied to MARTA before in the old system or at least registered in the old system after 1st Jun 2012, you have been mailed or emailed your login credentials and do not need to register.

What is my username?
If you are not a current MARTA employee, your username is the email address you entered in your registration. If you are a current MARTA employee, your username and password are your Oracle Applications user name and password.  If you did not already have an Oracle Applications account when we converted to iRecruitment, your login credentials were sent to you by mail if you are represented or by email if you are non-represented.  Your username is probably the same as your MARTA network login name, but your password is probably not unless you changed it to that.

What do I do if I have forgotten my password?
If you forget your password, you can reset it by clicking the “Did you forget your password?” link. When you click the link, the system will prompt you to enter your iRecruitment username. When you put in this information and click the submit button, a temporary password will be emailed to the email address that is on file for you. You will be asked to change your password once you login.

What do I do if I reset my password but it still doesn’t log me in with the password I received?
If you’re copying the password and pasting it in, please be careful not to copy a leading or trailing blank space. If you’re typing it in, please watch for numbers that could be mistaken for alphabets (0 and O) and vice-versa. If you've failed to login 3 times in a row, you will need to click on "Forgot Password" again to unlock your account.

I’m a former employee of MARTA. Do I register just like everyone else?
Former Employees of MARTA must register again using a separate link provided on the job site to link their account to their prior service record.

What do I do if I am a MARTA employee and receive a message saying I can’t reset the password when I attempt to reset it, or don’t receive it after resetting it?
If there is no email address in your account, the system can’t send your password when you attempt to reset it. If the email address in your account is incorrect, you won’t receive the new password.  In this case, please contact MARTA’s Service Desk at 404-848-5888 and ask to have your Oracle password reset.  After you login, click on “My Account” at the upper left and update your email address.

How can I update my contact information?
Clicking the “Manage My Account” link will prompt you to login to your account. After logging in, you will be able to update your personal information, employment history, preferences and login information.

What does the flashlight icon do?
The flashlight icon means that there is pre-defined data that belongs in that field. Whenever there is a flashlight icon, you should click it and then click the “Go” button in the Search area (there is no need to enter any criteria). The system will return a list of approved values for that field in the “Results” section.  To choose the value you want, click the “Quick Select” icon in the row of the value.  You can also enter the % symbol into the field next to the icon and click tab to see the list of values available to choose from.

When I click on the flashlight icon, why doesn’t anything show up?
Your internet browser may be blocking popup windows. Popup blockers could be present in your internet browser, toolbar, Anti-Virus or all of these. The steps to disable them depend on the software and a few examples are given below. Similar information for other software can be found all over the internet.

For Internet Explorer 7 & above, click Tools > Pop-up Blocker. Click Turn Off Pop-up Blocker

For Mozilla Firefox, navigate to Tools > Options > Content. Uncheck Block Pop-Up Windows

Please close the browser completely and try all over again.

Do I have to register each time I want to apply for a job?
You only need to register for iRecruitment once. After that, you can log into the system any time you wish to view or apply for jobs, or make updates to your application. However, keep in mind applying multiple times for the same position does not give you an advantage.

Search/Apply for Jobs

How do I apply for a job?
Click on ‘Register’ button if you are not already registered and follow the instructions to create your online account. If you are already registered, then just log in.

On the ‘Home’ tab, click the ‘Search for Jobs’ link located to the top right of the screen. Use the fields provided to refine your job search.

Select the job you want to apply for and click on the ‘Apply Now’ icon. The first part of the application process is to review the account for accuracy. You may also upload a resume, or add other documents such as cover letter or references.

How do I search for available jobs?
On the home page, you have several options to begin a job search:

  1. Click on the “New Jobs (Last 7 days)” link to view jobs that have been posted in the last 7 days
  2. Click on “All Open Jobs” to see all open job postings.
  3. Click on the “Advanced Jobs Search” link to search for jobs using any of the following criteria:
    • Keyword Search
    • Date that the job was posted
    • Job Category
  4. Conduct a simple job search directly on the home page by entering criteria into the search fields and clicking ‘Search’.
  5. Conduct a job search by clicking the link “Conduct Job Search” under the ‘New to Our Job Site?’ box
  6. The ‘Jobs’ tab at the top of the screen (next to the “Home” tab) provides an option to conduct a simple job search.

After options 1 or 2 or entering criteria into the search fields and clicking ‘Search’, a list of currently open jobs that meet the specified criteria is displayed. The search results are listed in a results table.

To view more details of a job posting that is of interest to you, click on the ‘Name’ of the vacancy.

I don’t have a resume. Can I still apply for jobs based on my profile?
If you are already registered and do not have a resume in the system, you must submit a resume in one of the formats listed below in order to be considered for a position.  During the registration process, you are given the option of answering some questions that will be used to create a resume for you.  We strongly discourage using this option, however, because the resume that is produced by this process will probably not provide all the information you would like to include.

I accidentally withdrew/terminated my application. How do I reinstate my application?
Please contact MARTA’s Service Desk at 404-848-5888.

How long is a position open to receive applications?
Vacancies are posted for a minimum of five business days.  The posting may close any time after the fifth business day. MARTA reserves the right to close a job posting at anytime during the advertised posting period.

How long does it take to close a job?
On average, it may take five to seven weeks before a position is filled.  Depending on the pool of applicants and additional factors, it could take longer.

How does the application process work at MARTA?
Once an application is received, a member of the Recruiting branch reviews it. If your application and resume reflect that you possess the minimum qualifications listed in the posting, your application will be considered for the position. Human Resources will work with the hiring department to determine which candidates’ qualifications most closely align with the needs of the respective organization. You will hear from Human Resources or the appropriate hiring department directly if you are selected for an interview.  It is imperative that your resume provide an accurate portrayal of your education, work experience, certifications and qualifications.

Will I be able to submit samples of my work (e.g., writing, presentations, certifications, etc.)?
If you are selected for an interview, you will be given an opportunity to present any writing or work samples.

If you are selected for an interview, Human Resources or the hiring department will contact you.

Can I contact anyone regarding the status of my application or an evaluation of my profile?
You can view the status of your application when you login to your account. Under “Jobs Applied For” section, you can view all active job applications and the status should indicate “Active Application”, “Interview”, “Offer” and so on. If you are selected for an interview, Human Resources or the hiring department will contact you and there is no follow up expected from applicants after submitting their applications. MARTA’s Service Desk can only assist in resolving technical problems with the system and will not be able to answer questions regarding the status of applications or other career advice.

I missed the deadline. Can I still apply?
As with any position, once a closing date (deadline) has passed, no applications will be accepted. Please continue to visit MARTA’s iRecruitment site and apply for new jobs as they become available.

Can I update a resume/profile I already submitted for a vacancy? How?
Yes. You can log into your iRecruitment account and perform an “Upload Resume” action. The system will ensure that all your active applications are updated to reflect your new resume and profile.  You should update your resume before you apply for a position.  Once the position has closed, or your resume has been processed by a recruiter, you will not be able to update your resume for that position.

Should I include a cover letter?
You are not required to submit a cover letter but you may do so if you choose.
