With more than half a million people riding MARTA every weekday, it’s on us to make sure our riders are safe throughout their commutes. The MARTA Police Department is our way of doing just that.

Originally certified under the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council in 1977, the department patrols MARTA with all the authority of a state police force. It consists of 400 sworn positions and nearly 56 civilians — making us the ninth-largest police force in Georgia. Today, standard patrols, plainclothes officers and fully operational K-9 units are stationed all across MARTA's transit system. Our goal: prevent crimes before they happen.

We’ve made a commitment to protect our riders, and we’ll continue to find ways to better serve this city as it grows and changes in the coming years.
