MARTA Wants You!

If you ride MARTA and want to play an important role in making our transit system better, take the opportunity to serve on the new MARTA Riders’ Advisory Council. As a volunteer member, you will work with a diverse group of fellow transit riders, gain an inside track on exciting projects and initiatives and share your opinions and ideas with MARTA’s staff and leadership. Read below to find out more about the Riders’ Advisory Council (RAC) and how you can apply.

Why is MARTA forming a Riders’ Advisory Council?

As one of the nation’s largest public transit systems, MARTA belongs to everyone who rides it and supports our mission of providing safe, affordable, and convenient transportation. As metro Atlanta’s population grows and mobility challenges mount, MARTA recognizes an increasing need to work directly with our customers and other stakeholders to help us improve the services we offer.

Am I eligible?

We encourage you to apply for membership if you:

  • Ride MARTA or represent an organization that supports/assists those who use public transportation
  • Are not employed by MARTA or a MARTA contractor;
  • Are not an elected official;
  • Live or work within the MARTA service area of the City of Atlanta or Clayton, DeKalb, Fulton, Clayton counties and;
  • Are at least 18 years old
How are RAC members selected?

Based on the selection criteria listed above, MARTA will begin accepting applications for the RAC on February 14, 2020. Applications will be reviewed and final selections for a total of 25 RAC members will be approved by MARTA’s GM/CEO.

What do I give? What do I get?

If selected as a RAC volunteer member, you will be asked to commit about two hours a month to attend meetings at various locations reachable by MARTA buses, trains, and Mobility (paratransit) services. RAC members will offer input to staff and leadership on how to improve MARTA’s services. The RAC’s recommendations will be forwarded to MARTA’s leadership for review. Members will receive a Breeze card during their terms, a maximum of two years.

How do I apply?

Applications are due March 14, 2020. Please complete and submit the application online. If you prefer, you can download the application or you may obtain a printed copy at MARTA HQ, the Customer Information booth on the Concourse at Five Points (Mon.-Fri., 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.); completed applications can also be submitted at those locations or mailed to: MARTA, 2424 Piedmont Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30324, For formats (FREE of charge) in accordance with the ADA and Limited English Proficiency regulations contact (404) 848-4037.
