MARTA
HOSTS VIRTUAL PUBLIC MEETING TO PROVIDE UPDATE
ON BANKHEAD STATION PLATFORM EXTENSION PROJECT
ATLANTA – The
Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will
host a virtual public meeting to provide updates on
the Bankhead Platform Extension Project on Thursday,
Feb. 24, at 6 p.m.
The project
includes a platform extension from two-car to eight-car capacity (matching the
capacity of the other 37 rail stations), and other modifications to accommodate
the subsequent increase in rail cars and customers, such as a new station
canopy and entrance, new elevator, and public plaza. The increased rail car capacity
will also better support the transit needs of a future Microsoft campus and
development planned around Bankhead Station.
The project is
primarily funded by the More MARTA half-penny sales tax collected in the City
of Atlanta and was among the first to receive funding from the State of Georgia
from the $.50 fee on for-hire-ground transportation, established in 2020. This
new transit funding source helps the state invest in transit projects that
align with economic development priorities.
The public meeting
will include a presentation from the project team and will
be followed by a Q&A session.
